It's Okay, That's Love. 괜찮아 사랑이야 (2014): Review

September 12, 2014 by Kdrama Momma in Medical, Romance, It's Okay That's Love

It's Okay, That's Love (2014)

Genre: Romance, Drama, Medical

Originally Aired on: SBS (From July 23, 2014 to September 11, 2014)

Number of Episodes: 24

Starring: Jo In Sung & Gong Hyo Jin

Written by: No Hee Kyung

Overview:

Jang Jae-yeol (Jo In Sung) is a writer of best-selling novels and a popular radio DJ.  Like many other Korean drama male character, he is tall, handsome, playful and slightly arrogant (but in a good way).  He lives in a perfectly color-coordinated room with perfectly lined books, towels and furniture. His space is so perfect that it's odd and sterile. We soon discover that he suffers from obsessive-compulsive disorder.

Ji Hae-Soo (Gong Hyo Jin) is a psychiatrist on her first year of fellowship. She is a smart and ambitious woman with humble beginnings. Her father suffers from physical and mental handicap, which perhaps ignited her desire to be a doctor. She is ambitious in her career and compassionate towards her patients but harbors negative feelings toward love and marriage. We later discover that she is traumatized by witnessing her mother's affair as a young girl and since then, suffers from "skinship" phobia which causes her to display symptoms of anxiety upon any physical contact with any man. Her "phobia" is exacerbated when her boyfriend betrays her with a friend.

Secret Love Affair. 밀회 (2014) Review

May 16, 2014 by Kdrama Momma in Romance, Secret Love Affair, Melodrama, Mature

Genre: Romance, Melodrama

Broadcasting channel: Cable JTBC (From Mar 17, 2014 to May 13, 2014)

Number of episodes: 16

Starring: Kim Hee-Ae, Yoo Ah-In

Written by: Jung Sung Joo

Overview

Secret Love Affair portrays an engrossing and complex love story between a 20-something piano protegé and 40-something art foundation director who is married and also his teacher. Upon first glance, it's difficult to understand their love affair with such a huge age and culture gap.  The two are from complete different worlds: Oh Hye-Won (Kim Hee-Ae) surrounded by a group of wealthy, upper-class elites while Lee Sun-Jae (Yoo Ah In) works as a delivery man and can barely afford a decent education despite his musical talents.

Yet there's something beautiful and enticing about their chemistry that the viewers can't quite grasp. As the story progresses, they can no longer fight off the attraction and end up falling in love despite the stigma and consequences that come with their relationship.

This masterfully written story depicts the ways in which an illicit affair can become beautiful, as the two characters's connection transcends a mere physical connection to that of a soulful one through their love for classical music. A not-so-classic story about how music connects souls across boundaries.
